Why “vibe” is the main filter

A star rating tells you a place is good. It does not tell you whether you can hear the person across the table, whether there is a socket near your seat, or whether turning up alone with a laptop at 2pm would be fine or faintly awkward. Those are the things that decide whether somewhere works for you on a given afternoon.

So every place is scored 1–5 on each vibe that applies to it, rather than simply tagged. A faintly peaceful room and an overwhelmingly peaceful one are both “peaceful” on other sites. Here they rank differently, and you can see the score.

How the matching works

The match quiz scores every place against your answers across five axes: vibe (weighted most heavily), category, amenities, price and neighbourhood. Your stated occasion quietly adjusts the weights — choosing “work or study” promotes quiet, work-friendly rooms and actively demotes loud ones, even if you never said you disliked noise.

Every result shows why it scored well, and where a place falls short of something you asked for, the results say so explicitly. A recommendation you cannot interrogate is not worth much.

What gets listed

Places are added when they are worth a specific recommendation to a specific kind of person. Somewhere loud and ordinary still belongs here if it is the only place in the area that seats twelve at one table. Coverage is deliberately incomplete rather than deliberately exhaustive.

Listings are written after a visit, not scraped. That is why the catalogue grows slowly, and it is the main thing that separates this from an aggregator.

What the verified badge means

That we confirmed the details — hours, contact, address, amenities — with the venue itself. It is not a quality rating, and it is not for sale.

Corrections
